Oak Ridge celebrates Earth Week

At Oak Ridge Elementary School of Leadership, Environmental and Health Sciences, we like to say Every Day is Earth Day, but this year, it took some extra effort to come together as a community while distance learning.  Students, staff and families celebrated Earth Week with virtual family events and Spirit Week and focused on caring for ourselves, our community and the earth.  Oak Ridge held virtual family events via Facebook Live in conjunction with our community partners each day.  We enjoyed mindful movement sessions with 1000 Petals, learned about biodiversity in the home garden with Midwest Food Connection, got to see how spring is progressing at Lebanon Hills Regional Park, and sang and moved with our own music specialist.  Spirit Week involved daily challenges to students, families and staff, including wearing fun socks and getting active, drinking water to keep our brains healthy, wearing green to promote Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Refuse and doing something to take care of the earth, and caring for the community by going out of our way to do something nice for someone else.
